Plan for Profit Workshop is “Invaluable,” says One LMN Member
“The money you spend is saving you money. Really! It’s a no-brainer.”
“It was like preaching to the choir,” Kevin Colbert of Threadleaf Inc, a Toronto-based design and build landscape firm, exclaims, recounting his feelings after listening to LMN President Mark Bradley speak at a budgeting seminar earlier this year. With a background in business, Kevin says he has always had a good grasp on the principles of managing and running his business or, more importantly, what he should be doing! But, as is the case with many business owners, he was uncertain as to how to follow through and implement what he knew.
After hearing Mark speak, Kevin was eager to get in on a workshop and really apply the concepts and knowledge he had gathered from listening in on the seminar. He knew what he had to do but he needed a system to help him do it. His answer came in the form of LMN’s Plan for Profit Workshop, “I jumped on it and was ready to go,” Kevin explains. “I knew what to expect beforehand after listening to Mark and I was just more than ready to see how to do it!”
Kevin insisted on having two fresh minds, ready and eager to learn, at the workshop to ensure he was taking full advantage of the opportunity and really absorbing the materials that were divulged. So, he and his right-hand man attended the workshop together and we’re immediately blown away with the “invaluable” guidance and teaching and the unsurpassable level of knowledge they were receiving. “My lead hand kept saying ‘I’ve never thought of that!’ and he’s been in the business for 9 years!” Kevin says, adding that he’s a very intelligent guy, “that’s why I have him,” and he knows the job inside out. It’s the business end where many green industry professionals come up short. Kevin insists the workshop not only opened his eyes, but it bridged the gap of knowledge and understanding and sewed up the hole of miscommunication between himself and his right-hand man. “It turned out to be the perfect segue from employer to manager,” he adds.
Kevin insists landscape professionals would be crazy not to take advantage of this indispensible opportunity that is calling right to them. “The money you spend is saving you money,” he says with a laugh, “Really! It’s a no-brainer.” In regards to the level of complexity of the workshop, Kevin is quick to assure, “It’s not rocket science.” While he does understand that it may appear “pretty daunting to some,” he insists the workshop just “made sense,” adding that the level of guidance and support will surely make up for any difficulty in comprehending the material. When asked about his real ‘A-ha!’ moment, he wastes no time getting to the point, “factoring in overhead!” he says. “It’s overhead that people don’t think about,” he says, adding that the workshop really does zero in on the importance of budgeting for overhead, a concept that many do not understand, yet one that is integral to generating better profit.
Kevin feels LMN gives him a huge advantage over his competition, and is ready to share it with all his sub trades to help them better manage and price their work. Successful partners are indispensible to a successful business.
