Spring 2011 Landscaping Trends

As with everything else, landscaping trends for 2011 are all about going green. While it may seem strange to suggest the concept of “green” landscaping to an industry that is built on the very idea of being green, the type of “green” we are talking about here is different than the traditional name for the landscaping industry. That’s right – the green we’re talking about here has to do with the environmental movement. A greener lifestyle is vogue and it suggests health, vitality, and connectedness with the earth, it also correlates with more money in the bank, and an improvement in the overall quality of one’s life. With that in mind, more home owners are looking for ways to incorporate green trends in their landscape design as a means to both boost their curb appeal and save a few pennies. Here are some eco-friendly trends for 2011 to suggest to your customers:

Ecoscaping –

Ecoscaping involves making use of green solutions to improve the look of the landscape without sacrificing the health of the environment. Some examples of green solutions include rainwater harvesting, a self-contained water features that recycles the same water, decorative hardscapes, such as more patios, paths and decks that reduce the need for water and pesticides, retaining walls, which work to reduce run-off, as well as erosion from household chemicals leaking into the yard.

LED outdoor lights –

With the outdoor landscape now seen as an extension of the home, night lighting is more important than ever before to the homeowner. Fortunately, LED lights give your customers more lighting without the expensive electricity bill.

Pondless waterfalls –

With your customers working longer hours and more stressful jobs, they want their outdoor space to mimic the surroundings of a tranquil oasis. The sound and look of a soothing waterfall is just the ticket! However, with the busier schedules and added stress, most people don’t want the responsibility of having to tend to or maintain a pond. Pondless waterfalls are the perfect solution.

Vertical gardening –

Also known as “living walls,” veritical gardening is a way to spruce up the indoor or outdoor space with some vibrant greenery. A lot of people like the idea of using vertical gardens to increase the “tranquility” factor of their home or backyard, others like the idea of using vertical gardens to conveniently grow vegetables or flowers in small spaces. Whichever your client prefers, vertical gardening is an easy-to-implement new dimension to gardening that looks interesting and is certainly convenient.
